For Android 13, Google has redesigned the look of the sleep time mode offered by Digital Wellbeing, with the addition of a rather useful “Dim the wallpaper” option.
The changes start with Bedtime Mode which features a new user interface you like on Android 13 for easier setup and management. After opening from Settings or the Digital Wellbeing “app” shortcut, you will come across the new card-based menu.
The first card indicates the current state of bedtime mode with the quick Play Now button. When enabled, there are great animations (complete with CAT) and two options: “Shutdown now” and “Pause for 30 minutes”.
The “Bedtime Routine” is the following card: Use a schedule (same UI time as before), run it while charging, or without (for manual control).
“Personalization” is the last section, with “Do Not Disturb for Bedtime Mode” and “Turn Off Bedtime Mode on Next Alarm” unchanged from the previous one. New is “Bedtime Screen Options” with:
- Keep screen dark: turn off the always-on screen
- Blackout wallpaper
- dark appearance
Dimming your wallpaper’s bedtime setting to be darker is very useful and produces an interesting look especially with the Pixel 6a Nature set that swept it.
Version 1.1.463639936.beta (409068), which was widely rolled out yesterday to the beta channel, allows (h/t Mishaal RahmanNew wallpaper dimming option. We first previewed the option in May. Meanwhile, Android 13’s redesign of the bedtime mode appears to have gone live in mid-July, if not sooner. The refresh is not showing up on the Android 12 Pixel phones we checked today.
