The PlayStation 5 It includes many features that its predecessor lacks, such as cards that provide in-game help and the built-in PlayStation Store. Unfortunately, one of the PS5’s innovations has received little use, which means the feature will be removed soon.
According to Siliconera, PlayStation 5 users will soon lose access to the Accolades system. For those unfamiliar with this feature, it was a function designed to give players who have contributed positively to multiplayer experiences. Players can get three useful, welcome and good sports awards. Since these trophies are neutral profile badges and not one specific game, players can earn them by playing a number of multiplayer titles. Unfortunately, most players will likely have empty Accolades sections if they check their profiles.
The announcement to abandon the PS5’s Accolades system comes from a post on the Japanese PlayStation support site. While a specific date for the feature’s removal has not been shared, a fall 2022 window has been made available. It can be assumed that when the feature is removed, players will lose access to any prizes they have earned so far. According to Sony, gamers weren’t using the feature nearly as much as the company expected, which prompted the company to stop supporting Accolades.
There may be a few reasons why PlayStation fans can’t take advantage of Accolades, although the biggest reason is that they are simply uncomfortable. While the idea of rewards for good sports players or co-operatives when playing online makes sense, the implementation could have been much better. Players can only view or award prizes if they visit someone’s PSN profile, which is very time consuming. For players moving from one multiplayer match to the next, spending time awarding prizes can be seen as boring. Furthermore, the players were unable to award trophies to their friends, which probably caused them to lose their interest in ocolades early on.
Currently, it’s unclear if Accolades will get a replacement, although the feature takes up a lot of space on PSN profiles. Perhaps this spot can be filled with the digital collectibles mentioned in the blog post about the PlayStation Stars Rewards Program. Although this is just speculation, it will be a solid place for these digital items, where players looking at their friends’ profiles can see some of their holdings. With Accolades taking up so much space, giving this position to a new and potentially more popular feature would be ideal, so perhaps Sony will replace it once it is removed.
While some PlayStation fans may be disappointed in the removal of the Accolades feature, most will likely feel indifferent to the announcement. Hope to have a file PS5 The feature will be added along with removing Accolades to help cushion the blow.
